Began in 2364, The Concorde Class of starship is the next step in carrier technology. The Concorde Class has three large hanger bays each used for a different purpose. This is achieved by cutting the crew compartment and complement in half, moving torpedo bays to a separate module, and moving the Main Engine room compartment closer to the main deflector array. Thus using that valuable space there is more room hangers and equipment storage.
The first, located underneath the weapons nacelle holds a large complement of subspace antimatter mines. These mines, when deployed remain in subspace until triggered by an enemy warp signature or ion trail. When triggered the device will destroy the triggering starship and seriously damage any others in the direct vicinity. All mine functions are controlled by subspace transmitters located on each mine, the main control of them being on a special console located by the tactical officers console.
The Second bay of two in the Engineering section of the ship is where all the fighters and equipment is kept. All fighter launchings and docking takes place here.
The third and final hanger bay is designed to hold a runabout squadron. This aspect makes the carrier also double as a strategic headquarters for the Marine Corps.
Also, what makes the design of the Concorde so different from other classes is the Weapons Nacelle. The Concorde classes' heavy armaments such as Quantum torpedoes are stored and launched from this location, but also there are two micro-warp nacelles located on the port and starboard sides. These have been found to make the warp field more stable and allow for faster speeds and maneuverability at higher warp. It was thought that the weapon nacelle could disconnect from the rest of the ship but that design was thrown out when complications of installing another impulse drive in the aft section of the array arose. The only compartments suitable for human use are the main torpedo systems monitoring room, and an auxiliary Engineering Station.
Another advanced feature of the Concorde class is the large pulse phaser emitter on the forward ventral side of the saucer section. Mimicking the pulse phaser technology from the Defiant-class, it is not as rapid fire but just as deadly. This aspect makes the Concorde Class Fleet Carrier a powerful force in ship-to-ship combat.
